Why it matters

The World Digital Library was developed as an international portal for primary sources from institutions around the world, including manuscripts, maps, books, newspapers, and images.

Even with limited current access, it remains a useful reference point for globally scoped source discovery and for tracing earlier UNESCO and Library of Congress digitization efforts.
