Introduction (Loukissas 2019, 1–12).
We read this text together in the session.
Reading summary
Loukissas argues that a dataset is not a complete and portable object. Data are made by people and machines at specific times and places, with specific tools and for specific audiences. He proposes that we study data settings, not only datasets. A data setting includes the conditions that make the data possible and meaningful.
