Session 11 — Describe your dataset

Day 2 · 60 minutes

NoteAt a glance
  • Reading: None assigned — you work from your own dataset
  • Material: Own dataset
  • Output: Draft dataset description

In class

Students work with their own dataset. They first describe it formally: observations, variables, variable types, population or scope, and useful summaries. They then describe its setting: origin, purpose, producers, collection process, categories, transformations, missing context, limits, and possible harms.

Use the Data Setting Checklist from Session 4. Use the statistics cheat sheet for the formal description.

Output

A draft of the final assignment. The assignments page lists the eight questions that the final text must answer.
