We read this text together in the session.
Reading summary
Loukissas turns the book’s principles into practical models. He argues that data are indexes to local knowledge. Good data practice should therefore show the setting around the data. The chapter uses design, art, and activist projects to show ways of making place, difference, context, and hidden assumptions visible.
In class
Students identify the practical lessons in the examples. They discuss which lessons are useful for Data Design + Art.
Output
A set of design principles.
