Risks and open questions

Risks for the workshop run and facts that remain unresolved.

This page lists the risks for the workshop on 16 October 2026 and the facts that are not confirmed. An unresolved fact stays on this page until a source confirms it.

Unresolved facts

ID Fact Status What resolves it
U-01 Room: Seminarraum F 001, Hörraumgebäude Unitobler. Resolved 2026-10-12: F 001 KSL course entry
U-02 Pass rule: KSL lists passed/failed grading and the exam type “not defined”. Resolved 2026-10-12 The instructor set the rule: attend the full session and show the minimum deliverable (D-010)
U-03 Audience mix: the instructor expects mostly DH Major students (2026-10-12). DH Minor and elective students may attend; the DH Major rules do not apply to them. Partly resolved Enrolment list before the session
U-04 Real registration and submission dates for a master’s thesis come from the Dean’s Office. The instructor confirmed SP-DH-2025 and RSL Phil.-hist. 21 as the basis of the example (2026-10-12). Unresolved by design Each student checks the official documents of the Dean’s Office
U-05 Licence of the teaching prose and data: CC BY 4.0 (D-005). Resolved 2026-10-12 Confirmed by the instructor

Risks for the workshop run

ID Risk Effect Response
R-01 GitHub changes its interface before the session. Steps or screenshots do not match. Check every exercise on the day before. Each exercise links the official documentation.
R-02 A learner has no GitHub account, or two-factor authentication delays the sign-in. The learner loses time in X1. Ask learners to create an account before the session. A learner without an account works in a pair.
R-03 The template’s workflows run in each new repository and fail. Learners see red marks and receive e-mails. X1 explains that the failure is expected. Learners can disable Actions in their repository.
R-04 GitHub has an outage. Exercises cannot run. Check githubstatus.com. Use the screenshots and the example repository to walk through the steps.
R-05 A learner puts real thesis data into a public exercise repository. Unintended disclosure. Use only the synthetic CSV. X1 includes a visibility check.
R-06 A feature behaves differently on a private repository on GitHub Free. Private-path learners get stuck. The exercises note each difference that the UI verification log confirms.
R-07 The KSL rules are read as thesis rules. Wrong deadlines. The requirements register separates course facts from thesis rules.
R-08 A two-week delay makes a learner move the submission date. A silent change of an official deadline. X6 practises the opposite: move the planned work, keep the official date, record the decision.
R-09 git or gh fails on a learner laptop: no installation rights, an old gh version, or a sign-in without the scope project. The learner loses time on the command-line route. Setup lists the preparation and the command-line problems. The learner switches to the browser route; both routes reach the same state.
R-10 gh changes a command or its output. Command-line steps do not match. Run the Command line tabs on the day before and compare them with the command-line verification log.
